Hi! This page explains what personal information Murphy Marketing collects, why, and what your rights are. I keep it simple because I only collect what I need.
Who I am
Murphy Marketing is a freelance, independent marketing side business based in Greater Manchester, run by me, Holly. I work for myself and I’m not a limited company. For data protection purposes I am the “data controller” of the information described on this page. The easiest way to contact me about anything here is by email at murphymarketingcontent@gmail.com.
What I collect and why
- Contact forms (“Let’s chat” and “Message me”): your name, email address, any business details and the message you write. I use this to reply to you. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in answering your enquiry, or taking steps you ask for before working together.
- Newsletter and blog subscriptions: your email address. I use it to send you new posts and updates. Legal basis: your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
- Comments: your name, email, website (optional) and comment. Legal basis: your consent.
- Clients: if you become a client, I keep the details I need to deliver the work, invoice you and meet any legal and tax obligations. Legal basis: contract and legal obligation.
- Website analytics and cookies: only with your consent, and only for cookies that aren’t strictly necessary. See my Cookie Policy.
The client portal
If you’re a content client, I set up a private login for you on this website so you can view, copy and download the content I create for you. Here’s what that involves:
- What’s stored: your name, business name and email address (which is also your username), your password (stored encrypted, so I can’t see it), the content plan, captions and files I create for you, and which posts and daily checklist items you’ve ticked off.
- Why: to deliver the content we’ve agreed and keep track of what’s been posted. Legal basis: contract.
- Who can see it: only you and me. Each client only ever sees their own portal.
- Cookies: logging in sets cookies that keep you signed in. These are strictly necessary for the portal to work, so they don’t need your consent.
- Deleting it: your login stays active while we work together. When we stop working together, I’ll delete your login and portal content within 3 months, or sooner if you ask. Just let me know if you’d like a copy of anything first.
Who I share it with
I never sell your data. I use a few trusted services to run the site and my work, and they process data on my behalf: WordPress.com and Jetpack (Automattic), which host the website and client portal, send newsletters and provide site statistics; Akismet (Automattic), which filters spam; Google (Gmail), which receives form messages and emails; and Instagram (Meta), whose feed is displayed on the site. These providers may process data outside the UK, under appropriate safeguards.
How long I keep it
Enquiries are kept for up to 12 months unless they lead to work together. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Client portal logins and content are deleted within 3 months of our work ending, as explained above. If we work together, I keep client records such as invoices for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting purposes (usually up to 6 years).
Your rights
You can ask to see the information I hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how I use it, or move it elsewhere. Where I rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Email me and I’ll respond within one month. If you’re unhappy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If I change this policy, for example when my business details change, I’ll update the date at the top.
